Celebrating Spring ‘21 - The P3 Post!
your resource for spring happenings at P3
TECHNICAL TRAINING & SUPPORT
With Spring came P3’s primary fundraiser, 401 Gives! 401 Gives is an annual, Rhode Island-wide giving day that helps nonprofits share their work, engage with their community of supporters, and fundraise to advance their missions. This year, thanks to your help, we smashed through our fundraising goals (more than doubling our number of unique donors since last year), and came in fourth in the state for funds raised among nonprofits with operating budgets less than $1M! Because of your ongoing support, we’re well equipped to uplift and empower communities across Providence as they recover and emerge from COVID-19!
PLAY & ART MAKING
In April, the City of Providence’s Recreation Centers reopened after a long, COVID-induced hiatus! To celebrate this opening, P3 teamed up with the City of Providence’s Recreation Department and the RISD Museum to post creative prompts and projects in recreation centers across the city. Youth channeled their imaginations: creating mood boards and collages, experimenting with color, and exploring self-empowerment using art. Facilitating the partnerships that make these projects possible is our pride and joy!
HEALTH & WELLNESS
Team P3 has continued to partner with city recreation centers as they reopen, as P3’s team of Youth Safety Ambassadors distribute additional PPE and other enrichment programming materials to each site. When Safety Ambassadors drop off materials, they take a moment to review current safety protocols, explain programs, and make sure there’s a steady line of communication open between P3 and our recreation center partners, so that everyone’s ideas are heard! Team P3 will continue to support our partners with critical PPE supplies and program materials as our communities emerge from COVID-19.
EDUCATION & CONSERVATION
Because spring is the season to plant and grow, P3 joined the City of Providence’s Recreation Department to host Garden Clubs at several recreation centers, with funding from the New England Grassroots Environment Fund. At Garden Club, youth sow seeds in portable planting beds, tend to seedlings, and watch their plants grow! By bringing Garden Club to recreation centers, P3 and the Recreation Department enable youth to learn about the nutritional value of foods they consume and empower them to grow food for themselves! The impact of Garden Club deepens with each season of growing!
STEWARDSHIP (FT. EARTH DAY CLEAN UPS)
While Earth Day celebrations may have looked a bit different this year, people across Providence continued to take initiative and find many ways to celebrate their green spaces! Many clean-ups were organized as part of Mayor Elorza’s Earth Day to Arbor Day Celebration. Additionally, P3’s team of youth education ambassadors, called the Teen Clean + Green Team, worked alongside the Rhode Island Environmental Education Association (RIEEA), Groundwork RI, and the City of Providence’s Parks Department to distribute fun earth day materials like water bottles and stickers, and released an interactive bingo card with environmental prompts on each square. When people across Providence got ‘BINGO’ by completing enough environmental activities, they submitted their name to receive a fun prize! We’re so proud of all of the many creative ways people across Providence came together to champion the Earth!
